This collection consists of all labradorite. Hand carved labradorite from @aquacarvigs on Instagram.
Labradorite is a feldspar mineral known for labradorescence, an optical effect that creates flashes of blue, green, gold, and other shifting colors as light reflects within the stone.
According to Inuit legend, labradorite is the “frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis.” The story tells of a warrior who freed the Northern Lights from rocks along the coast of Labrador, Canada, leaving some of their magical glow trapped inside the crystals.
First discovered in 1770 in Labrador, Canada, labradorite is also found in Finland (where the vivid variety spectrolite occurs), as well as Madagascar, Russia, Mexico, India, and the United States.
